Pittsfield is now the newest Cool Community! Earlier this month, Mayor Timothy Nichols signed the U.S. Mayors’ Climate Protection Agreement. Town manager, Kathryn Ruth, initiated the move, since the town of Pittsfield has already begun taking measures to reduce energy costs and global warming pollution in their community.
Above is a photo of Pittsfield’s wind turbine at the town’s recycling center. The project was funded by a $50,000 award through the PUC’s Renewable Resources grant. Pittsfield has completed an energy plan, which should be online shortly for residents and others to view.
Looking ahead, the town has applied for federal stimulus funds through the PUC to complete a retrofit of the town building, including replacing its pre-70’s boiler and adding solar panels. Also, the town is reviewing its codes and will revise them in order to provide ease to businesses wishing to go green.Â
Congratulations Pittsfield!
