Maine Partners for Cool Communities is calling together local Cool Teams, energy committee members, and municipal leaders for an all day event that will include speakers, networking, and valuable workshops.  The conference will be held simultaneously at three locations across the state; The University of Maine in Augusta, Fort Kent, and Presque Isle and will be connected through telecommunications in order to reduce traveling and to connect a greater number of communities.   View Program

Author, environmentalist, and scholar, Bill McKibben will be the keynote speaker and will be brought to us live on ITV.  Mr. McKibben, author of Deep Economy: The Wealth of Communities and the Durable Future, and a scholar in residence in the Environmental Studies program at Middlebury College in Vermont, is one of many great speakers lined up for the event.

Various workshops in energy and organizing will be available including “Organizing Locally 101”, “Funding Opportunities for Town Projects”, “Municipal Approaches to Energy Efficiency”, “Renewable Energy Projects”, and ”Community Hands-On Workshop” among others.  Participants will have the opportunity to sign up for workshops at the time of registration (TBA).

Every Cool Community has experiences and lessons to share with one another and this is a great opportunity to come together and build upon these experiences.

The event is made possible by Maine Partners for Cool Communities, Efficiency Maine, Sierra Club-Maine, and New England Grassroots Environmental Fund.  Registration is now available and the fee for the conference is $25.00 which includes coffee/snacks and a catered lunch.  You can view the program by clicking here.  Please call The Sierra Club Maine Chapter at (207) 761-5616 for more information, or if you are interested in volunteering, please call Jenny @ 761-5616. For Student Scholarship Information please call Sandy @ 761-5616.
