The Middle Schools of the Kennebunks unveiled its new photovoltaic solar panels in 2007. The 33 panels more for demonstration and education can produce about 10 kilowatts a day.
The Cool Kennebunk group continues to engage and educate members of the community regarding energy efficiency along with the cost savings that comes with efficiency. A second Energy Expo was sponsored by the group on May 9, 2009.
The town of Kennebunk formed an energy committee and did some infrared, heat loss audits as well as electrical and lighting audits. The committee created a 1990 carbon footprint, using the 1990 town annual report as a starting point, in order to make sure that it was feasible to hit the 7% below 1990 level
