Falmouth‘s Green Ribbon Commission has created an outline to follow for further developing their sustainability plan. It includes guiding principles, criteria for adapting a vision, and will include plans for the three basic methods of curbing carbon: through energy efficiency, better and more efficient transportation and renewable energy development.
Further consideration for the report and recommendations to the Town Council include an ecodensity charter that deals with land use planning and sprawl, solid waste and recycling, climate adaptation, and implementation of the plan.

Falmouth, Maine is Cool! On May 29, 2007, the Town Council voted unanimously to sign the US Mayors’ Climate Protection Agreement. A Cool Communities presentation was made initially in August 2006 and in mid-May 2007 a group of citizens asked the council to consider voting at the end of the month. The Council responded to the citizens’ request and also noted that success in this initiative will require continued support and action from citizens as well as elected officials and town staff. Falmouth had already made some steps to become cool. The municipality decided that the next car will be a Prius and the new Public Safety Building will be LEED certified. Having signed the Agreement, Falmouth will make the wise and efficient use of energy a priority.
