Charged with making recommendations to help decrease the town’s carbon footprint, recently reported their progress to the town council.
Areas of interest and exploration were what is the possibility of installing a wind turbine at the town garage, purchasing hybrid or more efficient vehicles for town use, switching to bio-diesel or natural gas. None of the above possibilities were not deemed as cost saving or had other technical reasons for not adopting at this time.
However, an energy audit did suggest installing CFLs and upgrading ventilation systems to reduce energy use in schools and town buildings. Recommendations to test wind capacity at future cell phone towers, a no-idling program, more energy audits and street light evaluation. Future considerations will include solar power, a composting facility while looking for grant opportunities.
